Romantic Era  The Romantic Era had many different styles, there was the Romantic style, Realist style, Impressionism, Post Impressionism, Photography, and Art Nouveau. I personally prefer the Impressionism style. I really like the Impressionist style because of the details, brush strokes, and backstory to the paintings. My least favorite style from the Romantic style is the Realist style. I don’t prefer the Realist style because of the details and backstory.  Realist Style I chose to share the style I dislike more first and share the style I prefer for last. The realist style was developed in the mid 1800’s and was an art style that was a reaction against Romanticism. Most Realist paintings were painted with livestock, farm workers, middle class, and ordinary activities. Morality and the Arts of the Classical Era There were two popular styles of art during the Classical Era, the Rococo, and the Neoclassical style. The Rococo art style came before the Neoclassical Era. The Rococo painting style was characterized by soft colors, curvy lines, and depicts scenes of love. The word Rococo comes from rocaille, which is French for rubble or rock (Rococo Art). It was light and ornate, it was often romanticizing past times that were being featured. This style of art did not reflect real life to me in any way. The Rococo art carried a strong sense of theatricality and drama, it was influenced by stage design (Rococo Movement). Artists during the Rococo era used paintings to represent the joyous lust for life. This included works with whimsical gatherings full of happy people. Many people, especially the middle class didn't view the Rococo paintings as relatable to real life. They felt that the Rococo style was a symbol of the moral decline of the French leade...

This week we are looking at the Baroque Era. The term Baroque originally derived from the Portuguese word “Barroco”, which means imperfect pearl. It means large, irregular-shaped imperfect pearl. Many believe that this label was not intended to be a compliment. The Baroque art style dominated Europe and was led primarily by the Pope, Catholic rulers, and eventually worked its way through France and northern Italy. This style of art is very dramatic, there is dynamism, movement, tension, and richness in the paintings.  I chose an oil painting by the French artist Nicolas Poussin. I personally am in awe of this oil painting, it tells a story and is a powerful one. We can see different emotions being broadcasted throughout the painting. In the painting, we see the characters angry, horrified, they are filled with sadness and anxiety. Sandro Botticello was one of the most influential humanist painters during the renaissance era. The background and history of Sandro Botticelli are still unknown. The painter was best known for his use of bright colors and lifelike characteristics and details in his work. It is often talked about amongst art historians that the paintings done by Sandro Botticello were commissioned for the Medici family but the truth to that is still unknown. We don't know much about Sandro Botticello, we know he was an influential painter and was connected to the Medici family. When he was younger and in his teenage years he was sought out by the Medici family, they offered him a space to create his artwork. It is a known fact they started his career and were able to help him become a well-known artist. I believe that his relationship with the Medici family allowed his career to be successful. This week I was looking at different forms of visual art or architecture that I enjoy. The piece of art I chose to share with everyone is called  Eternal Springtime . This is a sculpture designed, created, and made by the famous artist Auguste Rodin. Eternal Spring is created with such detail and brings it to life. It brings two people together as they slowly disengage from the giant block of raw marble and consume each other.  Eternal Springtime is currently located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Rodin Museum. I found a few different articles with different dates for when it was modeled and marble sculpted. From my understanding, it was modeled sometime between 1880 and 1890. It was marble sculpted sometime during the early 1900s. The elements of art include shape, size, color, space, lines, and texture. Hello,  My name is Adeline Knavel and I am 20 years old and currently studying Elementary Education at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. I am in my second year of working towards completing my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. I grew up in the military so I am from a few different places. I was born in Buffalo, New York, and only lived there until I was 4 years old. After I turned 4 my dad had joined the Army and we moved to Anchorage, Alaska. We lived there for roughly 4 years and then we moved to a new duty station. We then moved to Fort Drum, New York, and shortly after living there, we moved to Fort Carson, Colorado. We moved back to Anchorage, Alaska in the summer of 2013 and only lived there for roughly a year and then moved to Fairbanks and I have been here ever since.
